5. How To Calculate Steel Weight?
To determine the weight of a rectangular hollow section we use the RHS weight calculator, as we know that the weight of the Steel bar = Volume of Steel × Density of steel.
Weight = Volume × density
V_{t} = total volume of Steel
V_{a} = volume of surface A
V_{b} = volume of surface B
Now,
V_{t} = V_{a} + V_{b}
Vt = 2(Area of A×L) + 2(Area of B×L)
Vt = 2(0.1×0.01×1) m^{3} +2{(0.05-0.01-0.01)0.01×1} m^{3}
Note:- both surfaces of volume are multiplied by 2
V_{t} = 0.002 m^{3} +(0.03×0.02) m^{3}
V_{t}= 0.002 m^{3 }+ 0.0006 m^{3}
V_{t} = 0.0026 m^{3}
Now,
Weight = Volume × Density
Weight = 0.0026 m^{3} × 7850 kg/m^{3}
Hence,
the weight of rectangular hollow section steel = 20.41 kg
