The density of construction materials is the ratio of mass per unit volume. It shows the compactness of construction material.

Its unit is kg/m³ or lb/ft³.

It is represented by row (p).

Lower dense materials occupy more volume as compared to high dense materials.

Mathematically;

p = m/v

1 kg/m3 = 0.624 lb/ft3   }

The density of construction material determines the sinking property of material which plays a vital role in the design and construction of dams, foundations, etc.

The value of density is found for materials, not quantities. So different materials have their density.
