Mivan Shuttering is a modern formwork system constructed of strong and well-built aluminum parts that hold excellent strength, and durability is easy to install, adaptable, and are used in the construction of residential units and mass housing tasks.
1. Components of Mivan Shuttering
The elements of Mivan formwork are categorized into 4 types relying on the location of use as follows:
a. Wall Components
i. Wall Panel
The primary and primary part of Mivan formworks is the wall panels. It includes the face of the wall constructed out of an aluminum sheet correctly cut to match the actual size of the wall.
ii. Rocker
A rocker is an L-shaped board containing allotment holes for stub pins to hold the wall panels.
iii. Kickers
It serves as a ledge to hold the wall boards by creating a wall face at the top of the board.
iv. Stub Pin
It is the binding element of all other wall components.
b. Beam Components
i. Beam Side Panel
It is a rectangular frame trimmed into the needed size of the beam which creates the sides of the beams.
ii. Prop Head and Panel for Soffit Beam
In the beams, where there is no help provided from the bottom, prop heads are employed to hold the beam adequately. It owns a V-shaped head for effortless dislodging of the formwork. The soffit beam board is a rectangular aluminum structure set in the prop head to keep the soffit beams.
c. Deck Components
i. Deck Panels
Decks panes panela are the horizontal flat surface in which the slab is cast.
ii. Deck Prop and Prop Length
The deck prop is identical to that of the beam deck prop, here it is employed to reinforce the slab and holds the load reaching the deck panel. Prop lengths are the vertical support to the deck prop which are modifiable according to the slab height.
iii. Soffit Length
The soffit length delivers help to the edge of the deck panels at the perimeter of the room.
d. Additional Components
The additional components employed excluding wall, beam, and deck components are internal and external soffit corners and exterior and interior corners for wall panels.
2. Mivan Shuttering Construction Process
a. Placement of Aluminum Shuttering
Mivan formwork is mostly employed in places where the entire structure is constructed of concrete.
At first, all formwork is cleaned and coated with authorized realize agents.
The wall reinforcing steel is positioned with the floor slab.
Along with the wall reinforcing steel, prefabricated room-sized wall panels and floor slab panels are constructed.
The Plumb level and dimensions are inspected.
The aluminum alloy slabs are precisely constructed as per the needed dimensions.
Openings for windows, ducts, doors, and other features such as staircases, façade panels, and chajjas are also merged into these structures.
The shuttering is then merged together employing the pin and wedge system, which can be disassembled fastly after the concrete structure is constructed.
b. Pouring of Concrete
After preparing the formwork, high-quality concrete flows in it.
This concrete carries the formwork and shape of the cast.
A minimum of two workers must be active during concreting for inspecting pins, wedges, and wall ties as the concrete flow is in going on.
Extra attention is to be provided while flowing concrete for displace of pins/wedges, slipping of supports, or overspilling of concrete at spaces.
c. Striking of Shuttering
Generally, all formwork can be smashed after 12 hours of concreting.
First, the wall shuttering is hit down, followed by deck shuttering.
The extracted shuttering is cleaned with scrapers and wire brushes as soon as they are smashed.
Once cleaned, it is moved and stacked correctly for the next service.
3. Features of Mivan Shuttering
The major features of Mivan Shuttering are given below:
a. Load Bearing Capacity
The load-bearing capacity of Mivan shuttering is around 7-8 Tonnes per m2. Mivan shuttering is weightless and weighs roughly 18-20 kg per m2.
b. Striking Time
The striking time of vertical structure shuttering is 12 hours after concreting or when concrete strength has gained 2 N/mm2 and horizontal shuttering is 36 hours after concreting or when concrete strength has gained 10 N/mm2.
c. Durability
As the panels of Mivan formwork are constructed of structural grade aluminum alloy, they are extremely long-lasting and well-built. A single unit can be reused roughly 200-300 times.
d. Cycle Time
High speed of construction can be performed by this system which indicates faster completion of the project. Roughly, the time needed to cast the floor is 7 days with the application of Mivan formwork.
4. Comparison between Mivan Shuttering and Conventional Shuttering
Factors | Mivan shuttering | Conventional shuttering |
Quality | Good | Excellent |
Efficiency | It is effortless to prepare and dispose of the Mivan shuttering. | Installation and Dispose of conventional shuttering is a hard process, containing boring work. |
Repetition | Mivan shuttering can be employed a least 200-300 times. | It can be employed only 10-20 times. |
Seismic resistance | It possesses a greater seismic withstand. | It possesses less seismic resistance, comparatively. |
Speed of construction | The procedure of construction and disposal of the Mivan shuttering is quicker. | The construction of conventional shuttering is a more time-consuming procedure. |
Steel and Cement consumption | High | Less |
Consumption of raw materials | High | Normal |
Wastage | Less | Comparative greater |
Cost | Expensive | Cheap |
Maintenance | Maintenance work is almost negligible. | Need maintenance work. |
5. Advantages of Mivan Shuttering
The advantages of Mivan Shuttering are as follows:
a. On disposal of the formwork, a high-quality concrete finish is made to precise tolerances and verticality.
b. Panels can be repeated up to 200 to 300 times.
c. Custom prepared to fit project needs.
d. High-quality formwork provides uniform dimensions.
e. Matchless construction quickness.
f. It can be constructed by employing unskilled labor.
g. The total system constitutes the complete concrete structures.
6. Disadvantages of Mivan Shuttering
The disadvantages of Mivan shuttering are as follows:
a. The big amount of work is required to be cost-effective i.e. Minimum of 200 repetitions of the forms should be feasible at the site.
b. The formwork needs a number of the spacer, wall ties, etc. which are positioned @ 2 feet c/c; these make issues such as seepage, and leakages at the period of monsoon.
c. The hidden services evolve challenging due to the small thickness of the components.
d. It needs consistent planning as well as constant elevations to be cost-effective.
e. The heat of hydration is high because of shear walls.
f. Changes are not feasible as all members are castes in RCC.
g. Due to box-type construction shrinkage cracks are possible to occur.
