✔ Typically, all buildings are constructed according to drawings and specifications prepared by architects.
9 Types of Buildings
Depending upon the character of occupancy or the type of use, different types of buildings have been classified into the following groups:
1. Residential Building
These buildings provide sleeping accommodations for regular residential purposes, with or without cooking, dining, or both facilities.
Examples: Appartement houses, hotels, dormitories, lodging or rooming homes, dwellings, etc.
2. Educational Building
These include any building used for school, college, or daycare for more than 8 hours per week involving assembly for instruction, education, or recreation.
Examples: Schools, Colleges, etc
3. Institutional Building
These include any buildings or parts used for medical or other treatment or care of persons suffering from physical or mental illness, diseases or infirmity, aged persons, etc.
Examples: Nursing homes, jails, mental hospitals, etc
4. Assembly Building
These include buildings where a group gathers for amusement, recreation, religion, social, travel, and other purposes.
Examples: Exhibition halls, museums, skating rings, restaurants, gymnasiums, etc
5. Business Building
Any building or part of a building that is used for business transactions, keeping accounts and records, and similar purposes.
Examples: Banks, offices, shops, stores, markets, etc
6. Mercantile Building
These shall include any building or part of a building used as shops, stores, or markets to display and sell wholesale or retail merchandise.
Examples: Shops, stores, markets, etc
7. Industrial Building
Any building or part of a building in which products or materials of all kinds and properties are fabricated, assembled, or processed.
Examples: Plants, smokehouses, gas plants, refineries, sawmills, etc
8. Storage Building
Any building or part primarily used for storing or sheltering goods, wares, or merchandise, like a warehouse, cold storage, grain elevators, barns, and stables.
Examples: Warehouse, cold storage, etc
9. Hazardous Building
These buildings are used for storing, handling, manufacturing, or processing highly combustible explosive materials or products that are liable to burn or produce radiation.
Examples: Nuclear power stations, oil refining buildings, etc
