Internal vibrators are also known as Poker or needle type of vibrators. An internal concrete vibrator is a tiny steel cylinder with an electrical cord at the end of the tool. The head of the vibrator is placed in the wet concrete. It is a high-frequency vibrator prepared to run at 12, 000 to 17,000 vibrations per minute. Amplitudes limit from 0.015 to 0.08 inches.

The frequency of the vibrator is about 700 cycles per minute. The machine is most productive when the vibrating head advances in contact with the concrete. Some factors that are to be taken while selecting the type of internal vibrator are:

  1. How to Use a Needle Vibrator?  

The following points are essential for the use of needle vibrators for high efficiency:

a. When applying the vibrator to freshly applied concrete, we should maintain it upright and lower it gradually to an angle. This approach will vibrate a more extensive area.

b. Remove the vibrator slowly so that the hole is sealed up. It is also essential to limit the spacing of the introduction of the vibrator to less than 45 cm (18 inches) apart.

c. We should not shake the formwork with a needle vibrator as it will harm the spacing of the formwork. We should put it only up to 75 mm (3 inches) far from the formwork.

d. When packing concrete on top of another layer already positioned, we must drive the vibrator to a short distance (say about 75 mm) into the previously positioned fresh lower layer to bind the two concretes together.

e. The depth to which the vibrator can be immersed is restricted to the position of the flexible movement. The vibrator head can be allowed down into the concrete to the point of the flexible drive.

f. Do not leave the vibrator operating when it is not in concrete or in use. Otherwise, it can get warmed up and the bearings can break down.

g. Set the whole permissible length of the vibrator in the concrete when compacting fresh concrete. This action is essential to stop it from heating up. Immersion in the concrete cools it down.

h. Avoid sharp bends of the flexible drive, particularly at the vibrator head. Otherwise, great strain is positioned on the outer tube and internal flexible drive.

i. The quantity of concrete that can be vibrated by one vibrator per hour goes from 4 to 30 m³ depending on the vibrator and the process of setting concrete.
