Work starts on world’s largest football stadium

Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande have started the construction work on new football stadium having the capacity of 100,000. Guangzhou’s nickname is ” the city of flowers”.  So, The design of the stadium is inspired by Lotus Flower.

Cost of construction: £ 1.3 bn

Completion date: End of 2022

Location:  Guangzhou South Railway Station – around 30km from the city’s Tianhe district and Evergrande’s current home

The stadium also contains a FIFA area, athletes area and a press room.

Evergrande Real Estate Group, the majority shareholder in Guangzhou Evergrande, will fund the project.

Evergrande president Xia Haijun told reporters that the Evergrande have planned to construct 3-5 more new stadiums having the capacity between 80,000 to 100,000.
